NaNoWriMo for kids

NaNoWriMo is a writing challenge where you have to set your goal for words. I'm going to write one thousand words. I have a thirty day limit. It starts in eleven days from here. I might write about spaceships that run on heat or maybe I would write one that a spaceship ran on type of element like sulfur. I don't know what to write yet but soon I'll come up with an idea.

Please come an join NaNoWriMo with me in November. I think it's going to be pretty fun. Don't you?

  1. Alex - interesting that you should mention sulfur as a possible fuel. Zinc-sulfur-based solid rocket fuels are used in model rocketry. I found information here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-fuel_rocket

Although that particular fuel isn't used in spacecraft, solid fuels are used in the Space Shuttle's boosters due to it's simplicity and low cost for the amount of thrust produced.

As far as running on heat, solar energy producing either electricity through photovoltaic cells or vaporizing water to form steam (and spinning a turbine) are indirectly converting heat energy into a more usable form.

Another interesting form of propulsion is a "ramjet" that is designed to capture massive amounts of interplanetary particles and accelerate them through various means to provide forward thrust.

Or...your spaceship could be powered by dragons, or magic, or pure thought :) I'm curious to read what you come up with!

  2. I never knew that. Pretty neat. I never knew I could create a story with a dragon powered rocket.

  3. I'm guessing that's Alex's reply?

You can create a story about ANYTHING! That's what's so wonderful about it. YOU are in charge and there's no boundaries!
